Gor Mahia and Police FC have learned their opponents in the CAF inter-club competitions following the draw held at the CAF headquarters in Egypt. Gor Mahia will face El Merriekh FC Bentiu from Southern Sudan in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, while Police FC will debut against Ethiopian Coffee in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Gor Mahia’s match against El Merriekh FC Bentiu is scheduled for the first leg between August 16th and 18th, 2024, with the return leg taking place in Southern Sudan from August 23rd to 25th. A successful outcome would see Gor Mahia progress to the Round of 32, where they would then take on record CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly, competing at home from September 13th to 15th and away from September 20th to 22nd.
After missing out on continental competitions last season due to club licensing issues, Gor Mahia has been eager to return. The team’s new coach, Leo Neiva, expressed optimism about their prospects: “Gor Mahia have been out of continental football for two years and has a young squad that needs exposure. We will do our best and build from there.”
Meanwhile, Police FC, the FKF Cup winners, will make their CAF competition debut against Ethiopian Coffee. If successful in the preliminary round, they will face Egyptian giants Zamalek in the Round of 32 for a chance to reach the group stage. The preliminary matches will be played between September 13th and 15th, with the decisive round following from September 20th to 22nd.
