Once again the sporting fraternity in Kenya is waiting with bated breaths as the Ministries of Sports and Health work a plan for resumption of activity following a six-week lay-off occasioned by Covid-19 second wave.

Team sports which must undertake meticulous pre-season conditioning in order to compete professionally will be once again bear the brunt owing to the limited time left for leagues to conclude.

Remember the current football season was delayed and the envisaged ending in May/June is untenable. League organizers will have to rejig their calendars to ensure the more than half the season not yet played is fitted into sixty or so days.

Consequently, the players will have little time to rest in between seasons as they are required to reassemble for conditioning before the next season kicks-off.

The long term effect of such strain on players could be disastrous.

Salient Sports Management urges federations, teams and individual athletes to take every precaution to first of all be safe from the virus that has turned the world upside down.

Athletes support personnel should also take precaution to prevent injuries arising from muscle strains and guide athletes appropriately during the constricted period of competition.

Athletes should observe issued directives on proper dieting, exercise and rest.

Athletes must avoid consumption of liquor and other related substances.

Athletes should compete fairly without using prohibited substances to gain advantages.
