Under the leadership of co-captains Vincent Onyala and Tony Omondi, Kenya Sevens is poised for their third Olympic appearance, following previous outings in Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2020). This year, they aim to build on past performances and make their mark in Paris.

Coach Kevin Wambua, entrusted with the team’s guidance, continues the legacy left by late Benjamin Ayimba and Innocent Simiyu in previous Olympic campaigns. Ayimba led Kenya Sevens to an 11th place finish in their inaugural Olympic appearance, while Simiyu advanced the team to 9th place in 2020. With a young and dynamic squad, Wambua seeks to elevate Kenya’s standing on the international rugby stage.

The squad comprises a blend of experience and debutants, with returning Olympians Vincent Onyala and Herman Humwa offering leadership and seasoned expertise. The remainder of the team, making their Olympic debut, brings fresh energy and talent to the lineup.

The squad, with players aged between 22 and 29 years, reflects a youthful vigor and a determination to excel on the global rugby scene. Their selection underscores a fully rebuilt team, honed through rigorous training and preparation.

Tomorrow, they will conclude their group stage matches against Samoa at 3:00 PM EAT. These fixtures are crucial as Kenya aims to advance to the knockout stages and vie for Olympic glory.

As the country rallies behind Kenya Sevens in their pursuit of Olympic success, hopes are high for an improved performance under Wambua’s strategic guidance. With the support of their passionate fans and the determination within the team, Kenya Sevens embarks on their Olympic journey with optimism and determination to make their mark in Paris.
