Rabat, Morocco – January 27, 2025 – The CAF Executive Committee (EXCO), under the leadership of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, convened in Rabat to deliberate on pivotal developments shaping African football. This high-level meeting brought forth groundbreaking announcements regarding the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the African Nations Championship (CHAN), and several other continental tournaments.

TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco 2025

The continent’s premier football tournament, AFCON, will unfold in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Six cities, featuring nine world-class stadiums, have been chosen to host this grand event: Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier. The EXCO has officially approved the competition’s match calendar, signaling the tournament’s readiness to deliver top-tier football and unforgettable moments.

TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024

The much-anticipated CHAN tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, is set to commence on August 2, 2024, and conclude with the final on August 30, 2025. This competition promises to showcase the best of homegrown talent from across the continent.

Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025

CAF continues its commitment to women’s football with the Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco from April 22 to April 30, 2025. The tournament will not only crown Africa’s futsal champions but will also determine the two teams that will represent the continent at the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in the Philippines later that year.

TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025

The EXCO has approved a transformative new format for the U-17 AFCON, increasing the number of participating teams from 12 to 16. This move underscores CAF’s dedication to nurturing young talent and expanding opportunities for emerging football stars.

    Future Bidding Opportunities

In a progressive stride, the CAF Executive Committee has opened the bidding process for several upcoming tournaments, including:

    • Women’s Champions League: 2025, 2026, and 2027 editions
    • U-17 Africa Cup of Nations: 2026, 2027, and 2028 editions
    •  U-20 Africa Cup of Nations: 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions

This decision reflects CAF’s strategic focus on long-term planning and hosting excellence.

    Recognition of Grassroots Initiatives

The EXCO also acknowledged the success of the CAF GIFT U-17 Football Tournament for Girls, hosted in Tanzania earlier this year. This initiative highlights CAF’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development and gender inclusivity in football.

A Bold Vision for African Football

The announcements made at this milestone meeting reflect CAF’s vision for the future of African football—one that prioritizes growth, inclusivity, and world-class standards across all competitions.
