Nairobi, Kenya: FKF president Hussein Mohammed has moved swiftly to calm lingering concerns over East Africa’s readiness to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting that preparations across the region remain firmly on track.
His assurance follows clear remarks from Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), who confirmed that the tournament will not be postponed and will go ahead as scheduled in mid-2027.
Following a CAF Executive Committee meeting, the continental body officially dismissed speculation that the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 could be pushed to 2028 due to logistical, infrastructural, or political challenges in the host region. CAF described such reports as unfounded and reiterated its full confidence in the current hosting arrangements and timelines.
Addressing the issue after the meeting held in Dar es Salaam, Motsepe stressed that postponement had never been on the agenda.

“There has been no discussion within CAF about postponing AFCON 2027. Preparations are on course, and Africa’s flagship football competition will take place as planned,” Motsepe said.
Shortly after, Hussein Mohammed took to social media to reinforce the message, highlighting unity and progress among the three host nations — Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania — under the banner of Pamoja AFCON 2027.
“We have had very good deliberations today following the CAF Executive Committee meeting led by President Patrice Motsepe in Dar es Salaam.
Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are ready. Pamoja AFCON 2027 is on course. We shall deliver a spectacular event, Insha’Allah.”
The clarification effectively puts to rest weeks of uncertainty surrounding the tournament and sends a strong signal of confidence from CAF and regional football leadership, as East Africa continues its preparations to host the continent’s biggest football spectacle.
